### Sony's Disc Phaseout Survey: The Era of 'Ownership' Is Coming to an End

The bookshelf once lined with your game collection may soon become a relic of the past. 💿
Sony has finally begun officially weighing the discontinuation of physical disc support for PlayStation.

Sony Interactive Entertainment has launched a user survey exploring the phaseout of physical disc support in future consoles. With digital download sales already surpassing 80%, the complete elimination of the disc drive—once the very symbol of consoles—is now an imminent reality. 📦

This is a fundamental shift that shakes the **platform architecture and game consumption model** of the console ecosystem. The disappearance of disc drives signifies the end of physical distribution networks and the secondhand market, forcing all purchasing avenues into a single, closed digital storefront. Consumers will lose the sense of permanent ownership, reduced to a rental-like form of consumption entirely beholden to platform licensing terms. 📉

Ultimately, the platform holder's goal is reducing distribution overhead and securing total pricing control over digital content. **A disc-less console marks a structural turning point that grants platform holders flawless revenue control while subjecting gamers to 'consumption without ownership.'** 🔑

Will the tactile ritual quintessential to consoles—unboxing a game, inserting the disc, and playing—fade into history like this? Are you truly ready to embrace a pure digital ecosystem that exists only so long as the platform allows? 🎮
